Only an excellently trained intuition enables chess masters to navigate this vast ocean of possibilities and adventures. Chess players have developed and perfected their intuition for 1,500 years. But even the best gut feeling is never perfect and can produce serious misjudgements.
This leads to the right approach: Only the combination of gut feeling with rational-logical structure leads to optimal decisions – this applies to chess, life and business.
Let us return to the protagonists of the World Chess Championship. Magnus Carlsen is the player with the most developed intuition. This makes him superior when playing with a shorter time control, i. e. Rapid and Blitz Chess. If the Rapid Chess Tiebreak should occur after the 12 classic games, Caruana would therefore most likely have bad cards.
In Classical Chess, as the 12 games of the World Championship are played, Caruana, has caught up enormously in the last few months and distanced Carlsen several times. Caruana, of course, also posesses a highly developed intuition, but he proceeds much more analytically in terms of weighting the inner processes and tries to penetrate as deeply as possible into the respective position in a rational way, while investing lots of time. In this way in Classical Chess he achieves a particularly high level of precision at critical moments.
